Generally written in two lines, these extra titles often became the popular title for the piece. For example, the piece Meido no hikyaku had the tsunogaki of Umegawa Chūbei, the names of the two main characters. Or in the example below of the program for the first six acts of the piece Kanadehon Chūshingura, the tsunogaki reads "Ko no Moronao / Enya Hangan," the names of two of the main characters in the first acts of this play.
